Real Madrid have decided not to follow a move for Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba due to concerns about his salary, reports in Spain report.

Madrid has been touted as one of the two most likely destinations if Pogba leaves Old Trafford (the other is a return to Juventus), due to his compatriot Zinedine Zidane’s fondness for him.

If Pogba left Man Utd, it would be just for one of the richest clubs in the world, but it seems that even Madrid has been overtaken by its demands.

According to Brand, even if Pogba is willing to negotiate, the La Liga giants are not prepared to meet their salary demands, favoring the use of funds for a future offer by the Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Braut Haaland – and therefore have put their interest aside.

Real’s preferred alternative in the midfield is also a French player based in the Premier League, as Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante is named a slightly cheaper target – together with the star of Rennes Eduardo Camavinga, which is also attracting the interest of England.

Madrid’s decision leaves Juventus as the only remaining contenders for Pogba’s signing, although they have also raised questions about how much it would be worth to match the wages he currently earns at Old Trafford.

Therefore, Pogba may end up staying with United after all, especially after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed that he hopes the Frenchman will form a solid partnership with the recent acquisition of Bruno Fernandes at Old Trafford.

“Good players can always play together, so they definitely can; it’s a big yes,” said the coach. Sky SportsAsked ‘The Football Show’ when asked about the possibility of Pogba and Fernandes playing together.

“I think it’s exciting, we have an exciting team. I have Scott [McTominay]Fred, Nemanja [Matic] . There are a lot of games to come and I’m sure we can find a good connection between them. “
