SINGAPORE – A 38-year-old man who is said to have left his home to attend a social gathering in a woman’s apartment later received an invitation he could not refuse: one day in court.
Francis Soh Seng Chye was accused on Friday (May 8) of illegally attending a social gathering amid the coronavirus outbreak, a crime under Covid-19 (Temporary Measures Act) 2020.
The Singaporean is said to have left his home between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. on April 8 to meet Ms. Lye Bao Ru in a Circuit Road apartment.
Other details about the woman were not disclosed in court documents.
The meeting, which lasted about an hour, involved six people from Ms. Lye y Soh’s house, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health (MOH).
Social gatherings in different homes are prohibited from April 7 to June 1.
Soh, who will return to court on May 20, said he intends to plead guilty.
The Health Ministry said that “it will not hesitate to take compliance measures against those who do not comply with the Covid-19 regulations.”
It was not mentioned whether Ms. Lye and the other five people in her home had committed a crime.
For illegally attending a social gathering, first-time offenders can be jailed for up to six months and fined up to $ 10,000.
Repeat offenders can be jailed for up to one year and fined up to $ 20,000.
