Paris Saint-Germain has been crowned Ligue 1 champion

France announced earlier this week that Ligue 1 2019/20 had been canceled.

There was uncertainty about whether Paris Saint-Germain will be awarded Champions.

The French club was winning the title, having accumulated a 12-point lead over Marseille and a game in hand.

And now, according to L’Equipe journalist Domenighetti Joël, PSG has been awarded the title.

That means PSG won the Ligue 1 title for the third consecutive season.

The Ligue 1 table will be finalized based on a point ratio per game.

Assuming the national cups are also void, that means joining PSG in the Champions League is Marseille and Stade Rennais.

Lille, Reims, Nice will qualify for the Europa League.

Amiens and Toulouse are the two unfortunate teams to suffer relegation, while Lorient and Lens are the two teams that have earned promotion to the league.

It is certainly a controversial way of deciding things.

Lille was sitting in fourth and only one point behind Rennes in third.

That means they will lose a place in the Champions League and all the financial rewards that come with the smallest margin.

Seven teams, including Lyon, Montpellier and Monaco, were four points from Nice and may feel bad because they are missing a European spot.

And AC Ajaccio, Troyes and Clermont may feel bad as only four points separate the top five in Ligue 2.

It will be interesting to see how the French teams react to the news.

But regardless, this is good news for Liverpool fans.

The Reds have an even bigger gap at the top of the Premier League table than PSG.

They are 25 points from Manchester City and just two points from the title.

If the French FA believes that PSG with a 12-point lead justifies being crowned Champion, then there is a good chance the Premier League will do the same and do the same for Liverpool.
