This story is part of CNET coverage of Apple Arcade, including the first exclusive looks we got on some of the service’s new high-profile games.
On Friday, E-Line Media’s aquatic adventure game Beyond Blue joined Apple arcade‘s growing catalog of more than 110 games. In the new game, you play as Mirai, a deep-sea explorer and scientist. You and your research team must use the latest technology to explore the vast depths of the ocean. Use different tools to listen, see and interact with dozens of sea creatures.
The game also features a narrative element: underwater exploration is not without risks, and you will face high-risk decisions during the expedition. The soundtrack features talents like Miles Davis, The Flaming Lips and The Edisons. Beyond Blue also includes 17 mini documentaries called Ocean Insights, featuring original footage and interviews with leading ocean experts.
This is not the first E-Line educational game. Previously, the studio released Never Alone, which focused on Alaska Native culture. The BBC developers behind Blue Planet II, OceanX Media, and leading marine biologists helped create the game. The launch of Beyond Blue is timely with Earth Day next week. It will also be available for PC and Mac on Steam.
The $ 4.99 a month Apple Arcade gaming service debuted last September. You can play games on iPhone, iPad, Mac, iPod Touch and Apple TV.
