SINGAPORE: Nine new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Singapore as of noon on Tuesday (Nov. 3), the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in its preliminary daily update.

Two of the infections were transmitted locally and both cases reside in dormitories, the Health Ministry said. This is the highest number of new cases in bedrooms since October 20.

Seven imported cases were reported on Tuesday, all of which were placed on a stay-at-home notice upon arrival in Singapore.

There are no new cases in the community,

The new infections bring Singapore’s COVID-19 case count to 58,029.

Details on the new cases will be released Tuesday night, the Health Ministry said.

Singapore had reported its lowest daily figure since February 25 on Monday, with a new COVID-19 infection, an imported case.

STUDENTS MUST USE TRACETOGETHER

The Ministry of Education announced Monday that it is updating the guidelines for the implementation of TraceTogether for students to enter schools.

This is to stay in line with a statement from the Smart Nation and Digital Government Office (SNDGO), which said that SafeEntry only from TraceTogether will only apply after everyone who needs a token has had a chance to collect one.

Guidelines posted on the MOE website say that students will not be denied entry to schools if they don’t have the TraceTogether app, or if they have lost or forgotten to bring the token.

The TraceTogether program relies on proximity data to provide an initial list of close contacts of COVID-19 cases.

On Monday, Health Minister Gan Kim Yong said about 25,000 close contacts of COVID-19 cases have been identified to date through TraceTogether.

Of the identified close contacts, 160 eventually tested positive for the coronavirus.

“It has allowed early identification and isolation of cases, faster than would have been possible with manual tracing,” Gan said in a written parliamentary response.

Exclusive to TraceTogether, SafeEntry will be phased in in popular Singapore venues later in the year, SNDGO announced on October 20.
