SINGAPORE – Police are investigating 83 people for violating safe distancing measures for drinking and socializing in four separate incidents, with the most egregious crime involving 35 people gathered in an office unit.

The 18 men and 17 women were discovered by police in a raid on the office on Ubi Avenue 3 on March 18. It is alleged that they had been drinking and socializing at the unit.

A 22-year-old man, believed to be the operator of the unit, is being investigated for crimes under the Public Entertainment Act.

Four of the women investigated are Vietnamese nationals who are also under investigation for suspected crimes under the Foreign Labor Employment Act. They were arrested during the raid.

The unit operator is also under investigation under the Foreign Labor Employment Act.

Two of the other three incidents also occurred in office units, while one was in a store.

On March 13, the police discovered a meeting in an office in Jalan Bukit Merah. When the officers arrived, five men and six women, ages 20 to 38, were allegedly drinking, smoking and singing in the unit. The unit operator is under investigation for supplying alcohol without a valid license.

On February 25, police received information about a meeting at an office unit on Pemimpin Drive in the Bishan area. The perpetrators of this incident even had three lookouts, police said.

Eight men and seven women, aged between 21 and 38, reportedly drank, smoked and sang in the unit.

A 38-year-old man believed to be the operator of the unit and the three additional men believed to have acted as lookouts for the group are being investigated for offenses under the Public Entertainment and Alcoholic Beverages Control Act (Supply and consumption). Act.

The store incident occurred on March 1 on East Coast Road. When police arrived, they found 12 men and seven women, ages 21 to 39, allegedly drinking and singing in the unit. The unit operator is also being investigated for offenses under the Public Entertainment Act and the Alcoholic Beverages Control (Supply and Consumption) Act.

The offenses of providing public entertainment and supplying liquor without a valid license carry a fine of up to $ 20,000 each.

The crime of employing a foreign employee without a valid work pass carries a fine of between $ 5,000 and $ 30,000, a jail term of up to 12 months, or both.

The crime of being in a job without a valid work pass carries a jail term of up to two years, a fine of up to $ 20,000, or both.

Police advised the public to take the prevailing safe distancing measures seriously. For breach of safe distancing measures under Covid-19 Regulations 2020 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order), offenders can be imprisoned for up to six months, fined up to $ 10,000, or both.

Police said they would continue to crack down on criminal activities and such violations of safe distancing measures.
