An 82-year-old man died from his injuries after being hit by a car on Bukit Batok West Avenue 4 toward Bukit Batok Avenue 2 on Wednesday (November 11).
According to a Facebook post by ROADS.sg, a man named Afiq Sumardi was at the scene and recounted what happened.
“I’m the big guy in the picture who cares for the victim. No, he wasn’t a bicyclist, no, he wasn’t walking in front of or behind a bus in a blind spot. Please don’t speculate,” Afiq said. said.
“The paramedics were trying to resuscitate him in the ambulance. As with those who treated the uncle, I really expected a fruitful result, the news tells me otherwise, sadly.”
Afiq also reminded netizens to slow down and be careful when driving on Housing and Development Board (HDB) properties.
According to the Chinese-language newspaper Lianhe Zaobao, another witness, known as Zhang, said he was in a nearby coffee shop when he heard a thud.
When he turned around, he saw an old man lying on the road.
Zhang also shared that the old man probably did not notice the approaching car when he crossed the street.
He said the old man was bleeding from his mouth and was lying on the ground when passers-by who witnessed the accident came to help.
Zhang mentioned that this is not the first serious accident to occur along this road. A few months ago, there was another traffic accident that involved a bicyclist.
In response to an inquiry from Stomp, police said they were alerted to the accident involving a car and a pedestrian at 8.33 a.m.
“The 82-year-old pedestrian was unconscious when he was taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, where he later died from his injuries,” police added.
“A 66-year-old driver was arrested for reckless driving causing death.”
Police investigations are ongoing.
