8 new COVID-19 infections in Singapore, including 1 case living in a bedroom

SINGAPORE: Eight new COVID-19 infections were reported in Singapore as of noon on Friday (December 11), the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.

These include a locally transmitted case living in a bedroom. There were no new cases in the community.

The remaining seven cases were imported. All of them were put on notice to stay at home or in isolation upon arrival in Singapore.

Details on the new cases on Friday will be updated tonight, the Health Ministry said.

Singapore will lift border restrictions for visitors to Taiwan from December 18. Effective immediately, travelers can apply for a single-entry Air Travel Pass (ATP) to enter Singapore starting next Friday.

Upon arrival, visitors will undergo a COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test and, if the result is negative, they will be allowed to continue their activities in Singapore without submitting a stay-at-home notice, the Singapore Civil Aviation Authority said. (CAAS).

In an exclusive interview with CNA, Singapore’s Transport Minister Ong Ye Kung said that Taiwan is a “very safe partner to make a unilateral opening.”

He cited how a few weeks ago, Taiwan unilaterally reduced the quarantine period for essential business travelers from Singapore to just five days.

SAFE CRUISE PILOT TO CONTINUE

Singapore’s pilot plan for “safe cruises” with COVID-19 protocols will continue as planned, following a suspicious case aboard a Royal Caribbean International cruise ship.

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said on Thursday that the government will monitor the results of the trips before deciding the next steps for the cruises.

An elderly passenger, who initially tested positive for COVID-19 aboard the Quantum of the Seas ship, has been confirmed not to have the coronavirus after testing negative three times since the ship returned to Singapore on Wednesday.

As of Friday, Singapore has reported a total of 58,305 COVID-19 cases.
