SINGAPORE – Eight new coronavirus cases were confirmed as of noon on Saturday (December 12), bringing Singapore’s total to 58,313.
All were imported cases that had been placed on a stay-at-home notice (SHN) or isolated upon arrival in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.

On Friday, the Health Ministry announced that as of Monday, all travelers entering Singapore with travel history to Hong Kong in the previous two weeks must attend a 14-day SHN in dedicated facilities.
But they are allowed to choose not to deliver the notice in specialized facilities if they occupy their place of residence alone or with household members with the same travel history and duration as SHN.
They also must not have traveled anywhere else in the past two weeks except Fiji, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Hong Kong, Australia, Brunei, Macau, China, New Zealand, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
The new requirement is more stringent than the current one, in which travelers from Hong Kong are allowed to attend a seven-day SHN at their place of residence.
The new restriction takes effect at 11:59 pm on Sunday, the Health Ministry said.
Also, starting at 11:59 p.m. next Friday, all travelers entering Singapore, except Singapore citizens and permanent residents, who have a history of traveling to Hong Kong in the past two weeks must take a reaction test. chain of Covid-19 polymerase within 72 hours before departure to the Republic. . They will need to present a valid negative Covid-19 test to enter Singapore.
Meanwhile, one of the new cases was from a workers’ dormitory and there were none in the community. The last time there was a case in a workers’ dormitory was on December 3.
The workers’ dormitory case reported Friday was asymptomatic and was detected through the proactive surveillance of the ministry. His close contacts in his bedroom and workplace have been quarantined.
The remaining seven new cases were imported and placed at SHN or isolated upon arrival in Singapore, the ministry said.
Among them are three Singaporeans between the ages of 19 and 52.
Two of them, who returned from Britain and the United Arab Emirates, were asymptomatic, while the third, who returned from Indonesia, showed symptoms on December 5.
The remaining imported cases were two work permit holders, a dependent pass holder and a short term visit pass holder. They came from the Philippines, Great Britain, Malaysia and India.
The Health Ministry said the number of new cases in the community has remained low, with only one case in the last week, which was linked to a previous case.
Singapore has had 29 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.
Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December last year, has infected more than 71.4 million people. More than 1.60 million people have died.
