SINGAPORE – A total of 752 new Covid-19 cases have been preliminarily confirmed on Thursday (May 14), bringing the total count in Singapore to 26,098.

It was the second time this week that the number of discharged patients has exceeded the number of new cases.

On Monday, 504 patients were discharged and 486 new cases were announced, though the Health Ministry said at the time that this was in part because fewer tests were processed that day after a failure of the equipment produced false positives. during the weekend.

This means that as of Wednesday, 4,800 have fully recovered from Covid-19 since the first case was reported here on January 23.

Of the new cases announced Wednesday, only two were Singaporean. Two others were work pass holders, while the remaining 671 were foreign workers staying in dormitories.

For Singaporeans, permanent residents and long-term pass holders, this has dropped from eight two weeks ago to six in the past week.

For work permit holders who are left out of dorms, it has decreased from six two weeks ago to four during the same period.

There are also fewer unrelated cases among Singaporeans, RPs, and long-term pass holders. The number dropped from an average of three per day two weeks ago to two per day in the past week.

Meanwhile, new cases among foreign workers staying in dormitories mean that more than 7 percent of the 323,000 workers staying there have tested positive for coronavirus, a prevalence rate much higher than 0.07 percent among incumbents. off-dorm work permits and 0.03 percent among Singaporeans, RPs, and pass holders.

The Ministry of Health said this is due to extensive testing in both specially designed bedrooms and factory converted bedrooms.

The ministry said Tuesday that it is also evaluating those who are well and asymptomatic as part of its process to verify and assess the status of each worker.

In Singapore, so far 21 people have died from complications from Covid-19, while nine others who tested positive for the virus died from other causes.
