SINGAPORE: A 73-year-old man was killed in an accident along North Bridge Road early Tuesday (March 30).
Police say they were alerted to the accident along North Bridge Road to South Bridge Road around 12:41 a.m. involving a taxi and a pedestrian.
SCDF said it was alerted to a traffic accident around 12:40 along North Bridge Road, where one of its paramedics pronounced a person dead at the scene.
The 55-year-old taxi driver was later arrested for reckless driving resulting in death.
Images circulating on social media show a ComfortDelGro taxi at the scene.
In another photo, two individuals, who appear to be policemen, are seen with a plastic bag scattered on the road, while one of the officers holds a baton.
In response to inquiries from the CNA, ComfortDelGro said it had terminated the driver’s relief driving agreement with immediate effect and was assisting the police in their investigations.
“We are deeply saddened that this happened and have reached out to the closest relatives of the deceased to convey our condolences and assist them during this extremely difficult time,” said Tammy Tan, director of corporate communications for the ComfortDelGro group.
