SINGAPORE – Seven new coronavirus cases were confirmed as of noon on Monday (October 5), bringing Singapore’s total to 57,819.
They included one community case and five cases of workers’ dormitories, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said.
There was also an imported case that had been placed on notice of admission upon arrival in Singapore.
More details will be announced Monday night.
On Sunday, 12 new coronavirus cases were confirmed, including two community cases and six imported cases.
Ten of the cases were asymptomatic and detected by proactive screening, while two had symptoms.
One of the Community cases is a holder of a work pass, while the other is a holder of a work permit.
One of them was detected by enhanced community testing of all people 13 years of age and older who were diagnosed with an acute respiratory infection on the first visit to a doctor.
The other community case was detected as a result of routine testing of workers in the construction, marine and process sectors living outside the dormitories. He was asymptomatic.
Contacts are being tracked. All identified close contacts have been isolated and quarantined, and will be tested for the Covid-19 virus.
In imported cases, all were already in quarantine before testing positive.
Two of them are permanent residents of Singapore who returned to Singapore from India on September 22 and 23.
Three other cases are holders of work passes or work permits currently working in Singapore. All three arrived from the Netherlands on September 22, the Philippines on September 22 and Indonesia on October 1.
The last imported case is a clerk’s pass holder who flew in from Japan on September 22.
The remaining four cases were made up of workers living in dormitories.
All of them were detected by surveillance tests, such as routine biweekly tests of workers living in dormitories.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has increased from an average of less than one case per day in the previous week to an average of two cases in the last week. The number of unrelated cases in the community has also increased from an average of less than one case per day in the previous week to an average of one case in the last two weeks.
With 13 cases discharged on Sunday, 57,560 patients have made a full recovery from the disease.
A total of 43 patients remained in the hospital, none in intensive care, while 167 recovered in community facilities.
Singapore has had 27 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.
Globally, the virus outbreak, which started in December last year, has infected around 35.4 million people. More than a million people have died.
