SINGAPORE: Seven more people have been arrested in connection with a case of rioting with a deadly weapon on Eu Tong Sen Street on Saturday night (December 19), police said Tuesday.
Five men were arrested over the weekend, four of whom were charged Monday with armed disturbances with a deadly weapon. The fifth man, a 30-year-old man, will be charged Tuesday with causing serious injury by dangerous means, police said.
SEVEN MORE ARRESTED
Following raids across the island, police arrested six other men, aged between 22 and 31, and a 22-year-old woman. All seven are suspected of being involved in the incident.
Four of the six men will be charged Tuesday with being members of an illegal assembly. Two other men, ages 26 and 31, will be charged Wednesday with voluntarily causing serious injury by dangerous means and rioting with a deadly weapon, respectively.
Investigations into the participation of the 22-year-old woman are ongoing, police said.
Anyone found guilty of being a member of an illegal assembly can be jailed for up to two years, fined, or both.
Anyone found guilty of willfully causing serious harm by dangerous means can be sentenced to life imprisonment or imprisoned for up to 15 years, and flogged or fined.
Perpetrators of riots with a deadly weapon can be imprisoned for up to 10 years and flogged.
