SINGAPORE – A 68-year-old man, who had a history of hypertension and heart disease, died of complications due to Covid-19, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) reported on Saturday (November 28). He is the 29th patient to die from the virus here.

The Singaporean had traveled to Indonesia on March 10 for work and returned to Singapore on November 17. He was admitted to a hospital upon arrival.

He was confirmed to have a Covid-19 infection on November 18 and had a history of hypertension and heart disease.

The National University Hospital has reached out to his family and is assisting them.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Health announced six new cases of coronavirus, including a community case of local transmission.

The local case, a woman, was detected from surveillance evidence of street vendors in and near the Tekka Center on Thursday.

She is a Singaporean who sells lamb at the Tekka market and is asymptomatic.

The woman works with a co-worker at her stall at Tekka Market and stays at 22 Yishun Street with her husband, who has been working at Mustafa Center for the past several years. She regularly visits her children who are staying at Bishan Street 13 and Tampines Street 86.

The Health Ministry said that all of his identified close contacts, including members of his family and a co-worker, have been isolated and quarantined. Tests will be performed at the beginning and end of your quarantine period to detect any asymptomatic cases.

The ministry will also conduct serological tests on your household and family contacts to determine if you may have been infected by them.

The remaining five new cases announced yesterday are all imported and were placed on stay-at-home notice upon arrival in Singapore.

There were no new cases in the workers’ bedrooms, the Health Ministry said.

The woman’s case is the second local case in 19 days.

Singapore had gone 16 days without a case of local transmission until Thursday, when it was announced that a 32-year-old Singaporean marine services engineer, who dined with 12 family members at the Seoul Garden in Tampines Mall, tested positive for the coronavirus.

Saturday’s new cases bring Singapore’s total to 58,205.
