SINGAPORE – Enterprise Singapore (ESG) has fined five restaurants and a beauty salon for violating safe management measures.

The errant companies were identified during compliance checks in August, ESG said in a press release on Sunday (September 6).

Fines of $ 1,000 each were issued to: King of Fried Rice and Leng Saap @ Rot Fai Market, both at Golden Mile Tower; Little Myanmar at Peninsula Plaza and Yanant Thit, both at Peninsula Plaza; and Mei Mei Beauty at People’s Park Complex.

New Udon Thai Food at Golden Mile Complex, a repeat offender, received a higher fine of $ 2,000 for “failing to guarantee a minimum safe distance of 1m between groups of diners,” ESG said.

“This is the second time that the establishment has failed to apply adequate safe management measures. He was fined for the first time in June 2020 for poor crowd control and for failing to guarantee a minimum safe distance of 1 meter between customers in queues, ”the statutory board added.

The other four restaurants were also fined for failing to observe a safe distance between customers in the queues.

Mei Mei Beauty was criticized as it was found to offer threading services in which the thread was held in the esthetician’s mouth, a practice that is currently not allowed.

“Further action will be taken if these companies continue to violate the rules, including imposing higher fines and suspending their operations. They could also be charged in court under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) Act, ”said ESG.

Under the law, which was passed on April 7, first-time offenders face fines of up to $ 10,000, jail terms of up to six months, or both. Repeat offenders face fines of up to $ 20,000, jail terms of up to one year, or both.
