SINGAPORE: Six suspected drug-related criminals were arrested and the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) seized nearly S $ 700,000 worth of drugs in a series of raids on Monday (September 21).

Another suspect, a 63-year-old man, died while trying to escape, the office said in a news release Tuesday.

The seized drugs comprised approximately 5.13 kg of heroin, approximately 1.12 kg of ice, approximately 13 g of new psychoactive substances, and 20 tablets of Erimin-5. This can fuel the addiction of about 2,440 heroin users and about 640 ice users for a week, CNB said.

Officers also recovered S $ 174,000 in cash.

The raids took place on Sunset Way, Bukit Batok, and Tanjong Pagar.

Officers intercepted a vehicle near Sunset Way Monday afternoon, during which they arrested a 44-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman suspected of drug crimes, CNB said.

They found 10 packages containing approximately 80 g of heroin in the vehicle.

The 44-year-old man had met with another suspect, a 63-year-old man, prior to his arrest, the office added.

The latter was believed to be in a unit around 31 Bukit Batok Street. A separate group of CNB officers raided the unit but were denied entry by the occupants despite repeatedly identifying themselves.

“The officers had to force their way into the unit,” CNB said. “However, before the officers could enter, the 63-year-old man climbed out of the kitchen window and fell from a height.”

He was pronounced dead by officers from the Singapore Civil Defense Force who responded to the scene, CNB added.

A 65-year-old man and a 33-year-old foreign woman were subsequently detained in the Bukit Batok unit.

Officers found a total of approximately 4.79 kg of heroin, approximately 1.12 kg of ice, three packets containing 13 g of new psychoactive substances, and 20 tablets of Erimin-5 from the toilet bowl and in various places in the Unit.

Cash worth S $ 174,000 and drug paraphernalia were also recovered from the unit.

Two more men, ages 62 and 64, were arrested in another follow-up operation at a business unit near Tanjong Pagar Road. A total of 35 packages containing around 260g of heroin and 1g of ice were seized.

Investigations into the drug-related activities of the suspects and the death of the 63-year-old man are ongoing.
