The body of a 53-year-old man was found in the waters of East Coast Park on Sunday (October 11).

In response to an inquiry from Stomp, police said they were alerted to a suspected drowning near East Coast Park parking lot F3 around 2:10 p.m.

The Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF), which received a call for water rescue assistance around 2:15 p.m., said it immediately carried out search operations for a missing person.

The SCDF deployed firefighters to conduct a visual search from shore, while divers from the elite Disaster Rescue and Assistance Team (DART) conducted an underwater search of the area where the person was last seen.

SCDF marine firefighters aboard a rapid fire response vessel also scoured the nearby area to conduct a surface search.

“Search operations had to be canceled after approximately three and a half hours as a security measure, as night approached. Search operations would resume at first light the next morning,” an SCDF spokesman told Stomp.

At around 7.15pm, the SCDF received a call that a body was found floating. The body of a 53-year-old man was later removed from the waters.

The spokesperson added: “An SCDF ambulance was dispatched and a paramedic pronounced a man dead at the scene.”

Facebook user Eric Leong shared photos that were taken at the scene around 7 p.m. and said the man’s family was seen crying.

Police are investigating the incident.
