A 52-year-old man was trapped under a bus Wednesday night after a collision.
Police said they were alerted to the accident around 10:45 p.m. at the intersection of Toa Payoh Lorong 6 and Toa Payoh East.
The man was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital and the 36-year-old bus driver was arrested for dangerous driving and causing serious injuries.
Investigations are ongoing.
The Chinese-language Shin Min Daily News said the man was trapped for about 15 minutes before being rescued by officers from the Singapore Civil Defense Force.
Eyewitnesses said the victim was crossing the street with a shopping cart and the bus was turning right when the accident occurred.
A 30-year-old motorcyclist said he was on his motorcycle when he heard the collision.
It did not occur to him that an accident had occurred and he realized that someone was trapped only after seeing the bus driver get out to check.
He said: “The man appeared to be in pain. They released him after 15 minutes and took him to the hospital around 11pm.”
The Chinese-language newspaper Lianhe Wanbao reported that the front of the bus was damaged and the road was littered with debris. You can also see tire brake marks.
The accident drew a crowd of onlookers and Wanbao also reported that the victim’s body was trapped under the front of the bus.
He looked pale when they took him out, and a passerby said the man had wounds on his hands and feet and that they looked serious.
