SINGAPORE – There were five new Covid-19 cases confirmed as of noon on Sunday (October 25), two transmitted locally, three imported, bringing Singapore’s total to 57,970.

Both locally transmitted infections were people living in dormitories, while the imported ones were listed on stay-at-home notices upon arrival.

More details will be announced Sunday night.

Two of the 14 new cases reported on Saturday worked at Terminal 3 of the Changi airport but are not linked, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said.

One is a T3 security officer who had left for work before being admitted to the hospital. He also visited the Singapore National Eye Center for treatment of an unrelated condition.

The other is a swab examiner and assistant at Raffles Medical in T3 who had left for work prior to admission to the hospital.

“While both cases work on T3, they had not interacted with each other, and epidemiological investigations so far have not established any link between them,” the Health Ministry said Saturday night.

All people who work at T3 and who may have been in contact with travelers will be evaluated, he added.

The new Covid-19 patients visited FairPrice Finest at T3 and Jurong Point while they were infected.

The Health Ministry also noted that it is in talks with public agencies to speed up testing of frontline personnel at Changi Airport, as travel volumes are expected to increase in the coming months.

The number of new cases in the community has dropped from four two weeks ago to three last week, but there were three unrelated cases in the community in the past week, compared to one two weeks ago.

On Saturday, 12 people were discharged from the hospital, bringing the number of patients who have fully recovered from the disease to 57,829.

A total of 53 patients remain in the hospital, while 40 recover in community facilities.

Singapore has had 28 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.
