SINGAPORE – Five new coronavirus cases were announced at noon on Thursday (November 26), with one case in the community.
There were no new cases in the workers’ bedrooms, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said.
This was the first locally transmitted case in 16 days.
The remaining four patients were imported cases, who had been listed on stay-at-home notices upon arrival in Singapore, the Ministry of Health added.
Thursday’s new cases bring Singapore’s total to 58,195.
More details will be announced Thursday night.
On Wednesday, the Health Ministry said it will conduct Covid-19 testing near the Little India MRT station for traders in and around Tekka Center.
The test operations, to be carried out today, are part of the progressive deployment of community policing tests, he added.
The ministry announced seven new cases of coronavirus, all imported. They were included in stay-at-home notices upon arrival in Singapore.
There were no new community cases and none of the workers’ bedrooms for the fifteenth consecutive day.
This was the longest period without a community case since the first coronavirus case was reported in Singapore on January 23. There were 12 days between the first reported case, which was imported, and the first community cases registered on February 4.
Of the seven new cases, one is a 58-year-old male permanent resident who returned from India.
The others are a 22-year-old woman with a student pass who also returned from India, and four work permit holders aged 23-41 who returned from India, Indonesia and the Philippines.
The remaining case is that of a 36-year-old man with a short-term visitation pass who arrived from Ukraine to board a ship docked in Singapore as a member of the crew.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has remained low, with no new cases in the last week, the Health Ministry said.
With 12 cases discharged on Wednesday, 58,076 patients have made a full recovery from the disease.
A total of 42 patients remain in the hospital, while 29 recover in community facilities. A patient is in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Singapore has had 28 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.
Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December last year, has infected more than 59.7 million people. More than 1.4 million people have died.
