SINGAPORE: Singapore reported five new cases of COVID-19 as of noon on Monday (November 30), the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said.

Of the new cases, one was in the community and four were imported.

The single community case is currently not linked to previous cases. The 35-year-old Nepalese is a holder of a short-term visit pass who was allowed to enter Singapore to visit his family members who are Singaporean.

He arrived in Singapore from Nepal on November 1 and was placed on a 14-day stay-at-home notice in a dedicated facility upon arrival.

He had tested negative for COVID-19 infection on November 11 while serving his stay-at-home notice. He then stayed at a friend’s apartment at 22 Bishan Street and visited his family at 6 Yishun Avenue.

The Health Ministry said the man was detected as a confirmed case when he underwent a COVID-19 test prior to departure on Nov. 28 ahead of a scheduled trip to the United States.

He was rushed to the hospital when his test came back positive for COVID-19 on November 29. His serological test result was also positive, indicating “a probable past infection,” the Health Ministry said.

All identified close contacts have been isolated and quarantined and will be tested at the beginning and end of their quarantine period. The Health Ministry said serological tests will also be conducted for close contacts.

FOUR IMPORTED CASES

Four imported cases were also reported on Monday, including a 31-year-old Singaporean man who returned from Japan.

The remaining three cases are work permit holders currently employed in Singapore who came from Indonesia and India.

All imported cases were placed on a stay-at-home notice upon arrival in Singapore and were tested while their notice was being served, the Health Ministry said.

COMMUNITY SURVEILLANCE TESTS

The Health Ministry said that the total number of new cases in the community has remained low, with a total of four cases in the last week that are currently not linked. More details can be found in the daily situation report of the Ministry of Health.

The multi-ministerial COVID-19 task force has been progressively conducting community policing trials for targeted community groups such as booth vendors, food delivery personnel and cashiers.

Community trial operations were held on November 27 and November 28 for the people working at Pasir Panjang Wholesale Center. In all, 1,068 people were tested and all results came back negative.

More locations were added to a list of public places visited by community cases of COVID-19 during their infectious period.

SQUE Rotisserie and Alehouse at The Central @ Clarke Quay were visited four times, while the Marina Bay Sands Casino was visited twice.

Other locations include Ion Orchard, Geylang Bahru Market and Food Center, and Tekka Center.
