5 men arrested, including 4 for illegal assembly

A 24-year-old man was arrested for a knife attack that occurred along Serangoon Road, along with four others for his alleged involvement in a related illegal gathering case.

Police were alerted to a case of willful wounding with a dangerous weapon at 525 Serangoon Road at 1.30am on Thursday (October 8), Stomp previously reported.

A 33-year-old man had been attacked by another man with a knife and suffered injuries to his left arm. He was in a conscious state when he was taken to Singapore General Hospital.

“The attack allegedly stemmed from a heated discussion between the victim and a group of men, including the 24-year-old,” police said in an updated statement.

Through ground investigations, officers from the Central Police Division and the Criminal Investigation Department established the identity of the 24-year-old man and arrested him on October 9.

Four other men, believed to have been present when the incident occurred, were also arrested for illegal assembly between October 8 and 10. They are between 22 and 44 years old.

Investigations are ongoing.

Anyone convicted of willfully causing harm with a dangerous weapon can be sentenced to a prison term of up to seven years, a fine, flogging, or any combination of such penalties.

Anyone convicted of being a member of an illegal assembly can be sentenced to a jail term of up to two years and / or a fine.

“The police have zero tolerance for such blatant acts and will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly ignore the law,” the statement added.
