What began as an evening bike ride for a couple ended in a hospital visit after they were allegedly run over by a group of speeding cyclists.
A 27-year-old man is currently assisting with investigations into a reckless act causing injury case that took place in the vicinity of East Coast Park Service Road parking lot F3 on Sunday (Nov. 8) at around 5.16 p.m., said the police.
The couple, both 52, had gone to the park that day to ride their bikes, the husband told Lianhe Wanbao.
After pedaling along the Park Connector Network (PCN) for more than an hour on their rented bikes, the couple reached the end of the road and turned around when they encountered an alarming sight.
“When we turned around to bike back, five bikes were racing towards us at high speed,” the wife recounted to the daily Chinese afternoon.
The five cyclists were traveling side by side, forming a single line, he added.
“The first bike was able to avoid me in time, but the second hit me. My husband, who was behind me, was also knocked down.”
She was reportedly sent flying off her bicycle and briefly lost consciousness, while her husband suffered bruises on his leg.
