SINGAPORE – 49 new coronavirus cases were confirmed as of noon on Sunday (September 13), most of them migrant workers in dormitories.

Those outside the dormitories comprised one community and eight imported cases, the Health Ministry said in its daily update.

The only community case is a 42-year-old work permit holder who is not linked to the previous cases. This means that it is not known where it was infected.

He was asymptomatic, but was tested as part of routine testing of workers in the construction, marine and process industries living outside of bedrooms.

Of the eight imported cases, two, one Singaporean and one permanent resident, had returned to Singapore from India.

Four others are work permit holders currently working in Singapore and arrived from the Philippines on August 30.

The remaining cases are dependent pass holders who arrived from India and the United States.

All of them had received a 14-day stay-at-home notice (SHN) upon arrival and were evaluated while serving their SHN in specialized facilities.

The Health Ministry also said that the average number of daily new cases in the community in a week has decreased to one in the last week, compared to two cases in the previous week.

The number of unrelated cases in the community has also decreased from a daily average of two cases to one during the same period.

As for migrant workers in dormitories, cases continue to be detected.

Since the dormitories were declared Covid-19 free a month ago, on August 11, an average of 45 workers tested positive for the disease daily, the Health Ministry revealed on Wednesday.

They were detected primarily through active surveillance testing, such as routine roster testing (RRT) and aggressive follow-up and testing when a new case is detected.

With 65 patients discharged at noon yesterday from hospitals or community care facilities, a total of 56,749 have fully recovered from the infection.

There are currently 60 confirmed cases that are still in the hospital. Of these, most are stable or improving and none are in the intensive care unit.

There are also 555 patients recovering in community facilities. They include those who have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.

Singapore’s official death tally from Covid-19 complications is 27, but another 15 who tested positive for the virus have died from other causes.
