Four youths, ages 12 to 16, were arrested yesterday (October 13) for their alleged involvement in assaulting and robbing an elderly taxi driver, police said in a press release.

The incident took place last Friday night (October 8) in the vicinity of Sungei Tengah Road.

Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, the 64-year-old victim said he could barely remember what happened after he was attacked.

Other than $ 200 in cash, nothing else was taken from the car. The victim, however, suffered severe bruising to his right eye.

Fortunately for him, a truck driver rushed to his aid and called the police and an ambulance.

Following police investigations, the four criminals were identified and arrested.

Preliminary investigations found that three of them were involved in a separate home invasion case on Choa Chu Kang Ave 7.

The four young men were charged today in court.

The only girl, 16, has been detained at the Woodlands Police Station, where she will help police with investigations.

The court has been adjourned until October 21.

If convicted of robbery, all four could face a prison term of between five and 20 years and no less than 12 strokes of the baton.
