SINGAPORE – Four new coronavirus cases were confirmed as of noon on Monday (October 12), bringing Singapore’s total to 57,880.

They included a community case and a patient who was staying in a dormitory, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said on Monday.

There were also two imported cases that were included in stay-at-home notices upon arrival in Singapore.

More details will be announced Monday night.

On Sunday 10 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed, none from the community.

The Health Ministry said seven of Sunday’s cases were imported and placed on stay-at-home notices upon arrival here.

Three of the imported cases reported Sunday are teenagers: a 14-year-old girl who is a dependent pass holder with a history of recent travel to Saudi Arabia and the Philippines; a 14-year-old boy who is a permanent resident of Indonesia; and a 15-year-old boy who holds a Philippine dependent pass.

The other imported cases announced Sunday are a work permit holder from Malaysia, two work permit holders from the Philippines and a permanent resident of Indonesia.

The other new patients on Sunday comprised three cases of local transmission in workers’ bedrooms.

Two of them had previously been identified as contacts from previous cases and had already been quarantined to prevent further transmission, the Health Ministry said.

They had been evaluated during quarantine to determine their status, although they showed no symptoms, the ministry added.

The remaining case was detected through the biweekly routine tests of the Ministry of Health of the workers who were staying in dormitories.

The number of new cases in the community has decreased from an average of two cases a day in the week before the last, to an average of one a day in the last week, the Health Ministry said.

The number of unrelated cases in the community has also decreased from an average of one case per day in the week before the last week, to none in the last week.

Seven cases were discharged on Sunday, meaning that 57,690 patients here have fully recovered from the disease.

Forty-four patients remained in hospital Sunday, one in intensive care, while 100 were recovering in community facilities.

Singapore has had 27 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.

Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December last year, has infected more than 37.1 million people. More than a million people have died.
