SINGAPORE – Four new coronavirus cases were confirmed as of noon on Monday (October 19), bringing Singapore’s total to 57,915.

All are imported cases, which were put on notice to stay at home upon arrival in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said on Monday.

There were no local cases in the community or in workers’ bedrooms.

More details will be announced Monday night.

On Sunday, the Ministry of Health reported two new locally transmitted Covid-19 infection cases in Singapore: an unrelated community case and a case in a worker’s bedroom.

There were also five imported cases, which had been placed on a stay-at-home notice upon arrival here.

The only community case reported on Sunday is that of a 40-year-old Bangladeshi who works as a technician.

The man had not gone to work after he developed the first symptoms last Wednesday. It was later detected by community testing of all people 13 years and older who were diagnosed with an acute respiratory infection.

The patient also underwent a serological test that was positive, indicating a probable past infection.

Of the imported cases, four are currently employed in Singapore. Two are female work permit holders aged 40 and 27 who came from the Philippines.

The other two are a 32-year-old man with a work pass who came to Singapore from Greece and a 48-year-old man who has a work pass from France.

The remaining imported case is that of a 17-year-old Guatemalan boy with a student pass.

The only case of Covid-19 reported in the dormitories on Sunday was detected through a routine biweekly test of the workers who live there.

The Health Ministry added that nine more cases of Covid-19 infection were discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities. This brings the number of people who have fully recovered from the infection to 57,792.

The ministry added that 40 patients remained in the hospital, none in intensive care, while 36 were recovering in community facilities. These add up to 76 active cases as of Sunday.

The number of new daily cases of coronavirus in the community has also remained stable at an average of less than one case per day in the last two weeks. The number of unrelated cases in the community has also remained stable at an average of less than one case per day in the same period.

Last Friday, the Health Ministry reported that, for the first time since March 12, there were fewer than 100 active cases of coronavirus in Singapore.

Globally, the Covid-19 outbreak, which began in December last year, has infected more than 39.8 million people. More than 1.11 million people have died.
