4 new cases of COVID-19 in Singapore; 5,000 Changi airport workers screened after 2 cases detected last month

SINGAPORE: Four new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Singapore at noon on Friday (Nov 6), the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said.

All four cases were imported infections and they were given a stay-at-home notice upon arrival in Singapore. All were asymptomatic.

No cases of local transmission were reported on Friday. The new infections bring Singapore’s COVID-19 case count to 58,047.

IMPORTED CASES

The imported cases include three that are currently employed in Singapore.

One is a holder of a work pass that arrived from France, while another is a holder of a work permit that arrived from the Philippines.

The third is a short-term visitor pass holder who came from the UK and is an engineer on a job project in Singapore.

The fourth imported case is a special pass holder who is a member of the crew of a ship that arrived from the US She had not disembarked from the ship and was cleaned on board upon arrival, the Health Ministry said.

TEST WORKERS AT TERMINAL 3 OF CHANGI AIRPORT

The ministry said that 5,084 people working at Changi Airport Terminal 3 who may have contact with travelers have been screened and vetted.

“This was a precautionary measure after the detection of two cases that had worked at the terminal,” the Health Ministry said.

All 5,084 results have been negative for COVID-19.

“We are working with the Singapore Civil Aviation Authority to facilitate testing for the remaining 33 people who have not yet been cleared,” the Health Ministry said, adding that they have been temporarily suspended from their duties until they test negative for the coronavirus.

The group in Tuas South Dormitory has closed, as there have been no more cases linked to the group in the past 28 days, the Health Ministry said.

Ten more cases of COVID-19 have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities. In all, 57,959 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities.

There are currently 36 COVID-19 patients still in the hospital, the Health Ministry said. Of these, most are stable or improving and no one is in the intensive care unit.

A total of 24 are isolated and cared for in community facilities. These are patients who have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive for COVID-19.

Twenty-eight people have died from complications due to COVID-19.
