SINGAPORE – 342 migrant workers staying at Space @ Tuas were quarantined following the detection of a COVID-19 case in the bedroom, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) said on Thursday (Oct 1)
The residents, who work for 27 employers, were transferred to a government quarantine facility after the case was detected on Sept. 28 through listed routine tests, MOM said in a press release.
“The preliminary assessment had indicated that physical segregation measures to prevent workers from two different blocks within the dormitory from mingling could have been violated,” the ministry said.
“Therefore, a Stay at Home Notice (SHN) was immediately issued to workers who stayed on the two blocks.”
MOM added that new research showed that workers from different blocks in the dormitory were unlikely to have mixed. “Therefore, the SHN for the unaffected block was overridden,” he said.
However, the security measures in the affected block, where the new case was located, were not strictly enforced. As such, he was deemed to be at risk and needed to be quarantined.
In its statement, MOM urged all bedroom operators, employers and workers to work together and adhere to strict security measures in bedrooms.
