SINGAPORE – 30 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed as of noon on Friday (January 15), bringing Singapore’s total to 59,059.

These included 29 imported cases that had been placed on a stay-at-home notice or isolated upon arrival in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said.

There was also one case in the community and none in the workers’ bedrooms.

More details will be announced on Friday evening.

On Thursday, a 32-year-old Singaporean working as a para-veterinarian in the K-9 unit of the Singapore Police was the only reported locally transmitted coronavirus case.

The patient, whose job involves teleconsultations with dog handlers, developed a fever Monday. He sought treatment at a general medicine clinic the same day, where he was tested for Covid-19 as part of the enhanced community testing.

The man had been at home on sick leave until his test result came back positive Wednesday and he was taken by ambulance to the National Center for Infectious Diseases.

His case is currently unrelated, the Health Ministry said, adding that all of his close contacts, including family members and coworkers, have been isolated and quarantined. Tests will be performed at the beginning and end of your quarantine period to detect asymptomatic cases.

The Health Ministry also announced Thursday that there were 44 imported cases.

This is the highest number of imported cases since March 23, when there were 48 imported cases.

Among the cases on Thursday were two short-term visitor pass holders who arrived from Brazil to participate in an esports event.

There were also 29 work permit holders who came from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Myanmar and the Philippines.

Of this group, 14 are foreign domestic workers and one is a sailor who worked aboard the NewOcean 6 bunker.

The 39-year-old Indonesian man was recently added to the NewOcean 6 group, which now has 13 confirmed cases.

He was identified as a close contact for a previously confirmed case and was quarantined on December 31. He was tested during quarantine and was confirmed positive on Wednesday.

The imported cases also included three Singaporeans who returned from Qatar, the Philippines and Britain.

The Health Ministry added Jem, Chong Pang City Wet Market and Food Center, Junction Nine, and Sembawang Hut to the list of places visited by Covid-19 patients while they were infectious. These visits occurred between last Saturday and Sunday.

Overall, there were three new cases in the community in the last seven days and nine in the previous week. There was also one unrelated case in the community in the past seven days, compared to six the week before.

With 35 cases discharged on Thursday, 58,742 patients have made a full recovery from the disease. A total of 41 patients remain in the hospital and none are in intensive care.

Singapore has had 29 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.

Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December 2019, has infected more than 92.3 million people. More than 1.97 million people have died.
