3 Food and Beverage Operators Ordered to Close Due to COVID-19 Safe Management Violations

SINGAPORE – The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) on Monday (Aug 31) ordered the operators of three food establishments to close for violating COVID-19 safe management rules, including one that had transferred alcohol to kettles. after 10.30pm to avoid detection.

All three were also fined between $ 1,000 and $ 2,000 for the crimes, the SFA said in a press release.

Whimsical Bar will be closed with immediate effect until a grocery store license is obtained, while Create Kitchen and Tripes Hotpot will be closed from Wednesday through September 11.

The SFA said it had received comments that Whimsical Bar, located at 2 Science Park Drive, was disobeying various safe management measures.

Upon inspection, the bar was found to have tables separated by less than a meter apart, as well as allowing groups of more than five customers to sit together and mingle.

“The consumption of alcoholic beverages was also observed after 10:30 pm. We also discovered that Whimsical Bar was operating a food establishment without a valid food store license, ”added the SFA.

Create Kitchen, located next to the bar, had a license to operate as a restaurant but violated similar safe driving measures, the authority said.

Both were fined $ 1,000 for the crimes.

The SFA also received comments that the S-Tripes Hotpot, which was licensed as a restaurant, served alcoholic beverages after 10:30 p.m. M.

Upon inspection of its facilities at 731 Havelock Road, SFA officials found that the operator had violated safe driving measures on multiple occasions, the authority said.

These include observations that staff were not wearing masks or were not wearing them correctly despite reminders.

“The sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages was observed after 10:30 pm, with the drinks transferred to teapots and empty green tea bottles before being served to avoid detection,” said the SFA.

S-Tripes Hotpot was fined $ 2,000 for the offenses.

During Phase 2, the safe management measures implemented include the daily prohibition of both the sale and consumption of alcohol in all food and drink establishments after 10:30 p.m. This also includes consumption in any outdoor refreshment area and / or tables / chairs owned or operated by said establishment.

Each group of clients must also be limited to five or less, with a space of at least one meter between the groups. Meetings or groups involving more than five clients in total are not allowed, and there should be no intermixing between groups.

Under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) Act of 2020, first-time offenders will face a fine of up to S $ 10,000, a jail term of up to six months, or both. Repeat offenders can face double penalties.

According to the Environmental Public Health Act, no person will be able to operate a food establishment without a valid license. Violators can face a fine of up to $ 2,000 if convicted. In the case of a continuing offense, they face an additional fine not to exceed $ 100 for each day or part of it during which the offense continues after conviction.
