SINGAPORE – 21 new coronavirus cases were confirmed at noon on Wednesday (December 23), all of which were imported.

They were posted on stay-at-home notices upon arrival in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said.

Among them, eight are Singaporean or permanent residents and nine are foreign domestic workers.

There were no new community cases and none of the workers’ bedrooms.

Wednesday’s cases bring Singapore’s total to 58,482.

More details will be announced Wednesday night.

On Tuesday, the ministry confirmed 29 new cases of coronavirus, all of which were imported.

They were put on notice to stay at home or in isolation upon arrival in Singapore, the Health Ministry said.

Tuesday’s imported figure is the highest since March 28, when there were 42 such cases.

It’s also the highest daily count since Sept. 21, when 31 cases were reported – nine imported and 22 from workers’ dormitories.

Among the imported cases, four are Singaporean or permanent residents and 23 are foreigners currently employed in Singapore, including 21 foreign domestic workers who hold work permits.

No new community cases or worker bedrooms were reported on Tuesday.

In an update Tuesday night, the Health Ministry said the only locally transmitted case reported Monday had a positive serological test, indicating a probable past infection.

The ministry said on Monday that on December 14, the 39-year-old woman and her family had toured the southern islands with two other families, and their group had 12 people in total. That’s seven more of the five allowed in phase two of Singapore’s reopening.

Of the 29 imported cases announced Tuesday, three are Singaporeans who returned from the United States, Costa Rica and Indonesia, and one is a permanent resident who returned from India.

Two others are holders of work passes that came from the Philippines and the United States.

The 21 foreign domestic workers currently employed in Singapore came from the Philippines, Indonesia and Myanmar.

The remaining two imported cases are holders of short-term visiting passes. One, a 46-year-old Indian national, came here from India to visit a relative from Singapore, while the other, a 22-year-old Indonesian man, is a member of the crew of a ship that arrived from Indonesia. He had not disembarked from the ship until he was taken to a quarantine facility, the Health Ministry said.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has remained low, with a total of one of those cases in the last week, currently unrelated.

With 17 cases discharged on Tuesday, 58,289 patients have made a full recovery from the disease.

A total of 47 patients remained in the hospital, none in intensive care, while 81 recovered in community facilities.

Singapore has had 29 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.

Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December last year, has infected more than 77.3 million people. More than 1.7 million people have died.
