SINGAPORE – A 20-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of Friday (October 9) for possessing a knife and beating a police officer.
Singapore Police Force (SPF) officers from the Central Police Division found the man in the lobby of an elevator on Block 6 Beach Road around 3.50am and conducted a random inspection.
The man claimed that a black shoulder bag he was wearing was empty. She later tried to flee and pulled a knife from her bag when officers asked for her details.
The agents disarmed the man and tried to hold him down, but he ended up hitting one of them and fleeing the scene.
The officer suffered injuries to the face and the knife was seized as a case exhibit.
Police arrested the man in a residential unit on the same block an hour later, for willfully causing harm to dissuade a public servant from doing his duty and possessing a programmed weapon.
“The police have zero tolerance for acts so blatant that they threaten the safety of our officers and will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disobey the law,” SPF said in a statement.
For willfully causing harm to dissuade a public servant from doing his duty, the man could be imprisoned for up to seven years and fined or punished.
For possessing a knife, he could be jailed for up to five years and receive at least six strokes of the cane.
