SINGAPORE: Two Resorts World Sentosa hotels, Beach Villas and Equarius Hotel, were ordered to suspend bookings for a month after failing to comply with COVID-19 secure management measures, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said on Monday ( December 21).
The suspension will begin on Tuesday and end on January 21, 2021, and reservations will be allowed to resume the following day.
“The two hotels cannot accept new reservations for the duration of the suspension. However, they are still allowed to honor existing reservations,” STB said in a press release.

Investigations by STB agents revealed that at least 15 people had gathered at a two-story villa in Beach Villas on October 10. Only four had been registered as guests at the hotel.
STB also found that Equarius Hotel was unable to prevent a 16-person gathering in a guest room on November 17. The guest room was reserved with the names of three of the people in the group.
The hotels also did not guarantee the SafeEntry records and the temperature measurement for the people involved.
More investigations of the hotels, as well as the individuals involved, are underway and enforcement action can be taken, STB said.

10 FINED HOTELS
STB said that 10 hotels and hostels have been fined for violating safe management measures, such as failing to perform an entry control or record the contact details of guests entering their facilities.
“STB takes a serious view of any SMM (Secure Management Measures) non-compliance and will not hesitate to take compliance action in the event of non-compliance. Businesses and the public must adhere to current secure management measures to prevent clusters of COVID-19 forming, ”the agency said.
“The Government will also intensify enforcement controls during this period to ensure compliance. Companies and the public are also reminded that the current five-person group size limit will continue to apply until Phase 3 goes into effect as of March December 28, 2020 “.

STB said “strict enforcement measures” will be taken against errant companies or individuals, which may include fines, temporary closure and prosecution.
First-time offenders can be fined up to S $ 10,000, imprisoned for six months or both, with double the maximum possible punishment for repeat offenders.
