SINGAPORE – Two food and beverage (F&B) operators will be charged next Tuesday (February 2) for allegedly violating safe management measures, one of them while continuing to operate despite being ordered to shut down for multiple violations previously. .

They were among the 12 sanctioned food and drink establishments, four of which received a closure order and six fined.

Another 131 people have also been fined for breaking Covid-19 rules.

The Ministry of Sustainability and Environment (MSE) in a statement on Friday said they were all detained as part of intensified inspections by government agencies at F&B facilities, shopping malls and other public spaces last week on the 22nd and 23rd. from January.

The two F&B operators that will be charged next Tuesday are Mark Enterprise and Kim’s Place Seafood Restaurant.

Mark Enterprise had reportedly continued operations on July 18 despite receiving a shutdown order for violating multiple safe management measures.

Kim’s Place Seafood had allegedly allowed gatherings of more than five people divided into several tables. It also allowed karaoke activities on its premises in September of last year.

For the violations, Kim’s Place Seafood received two closure orders for a total of 30 days, from January 6 to February 4.

Another company, Singapore Straits Wine Company, will also be charged with allegedly hosting a company meeting at Kim’s Place Seafood on September 7 last year. It involved 26 employees and all of them have been fined $ 300 each.

Separately, the outlets ordered to close are Xiao Yao Ge at 350 Jurong East Avenue 1, Main Entrance at 40 Sago Street, Killiney Kopitiam at Lucky Plaza, and Tian Ya Hai Jiao KTV at 2 Aliwal Street.

Main Entrance, a pub operating under an A&B license, was found to have allowed its patrons to make speeches, allowed a gathering of more than eight people and did not conduct temperature checks at the entrance on January 23.

According to the Covid-19 Temporary Measures Law, food and drink establishments must not allow speeches or recitals by customers.

The Singapore Tourism Board has ordered the main entrance to be closed for 10 days from January 26 to February 4.

On the same day, it was discovered that Xiao Yao Ge Chinese Restaurant had seated separate groups of diners less than 1 meter apart. This is the third time that the restaurant fails to comply with the Covid-19 measures. Previously, he was fined $ 1,000 for violations involving customer seating groups less than 1 meter apart.

The Singapore Food Agency ordered Xiao Yao Ge to shut down for 10 days from January 28.

Killiney Kopitiam did not perform temperature checks on its entrance and did not ensure that its customers performed SafeEntry checks for contact tracing. It was ordered to close for 10 days from January 27 to February 5.

Tian Ya Hai Jiao KTV, which had received approval to move its operations to F&B, was found to serve diners after the 10.30pm cutoff time for alcohol consumption. It was ordered to close for 10 days starting on January 23 and February 1.

Four other outlets were fined $ 1,000 each and two others were fined $ 2,000 each for repeat offenses.

The infractions included seating for groups of diners less than a meter apart, accepting reservations of more than eight people and seating a group of more than eight people together.

Twenty-seven people were fined $ 300 each for meeting in groups of more than eight. The remaining 104 people were fined for gathering in groups of more than eight people and mingling in parks and beaches.

On Friday, the MSE urged people to follow the Covid-19 rules during the Chinese New Year period to prevent a resurgence of community cases.

“Last year, we saw the emergence of large clusters of Covid-19 stemming from Chinese New Year gatherings. Increased social activities during Christmas and the year-end period likely contributed to the recent number of community cases,” MSE said.

He also recommended that F&B operators check the bookings they received to make sure the bookings don’t include more than eight people.

“In the run-up to the holiday period, there are anecdotal reports of food and drink establishments taking reservations for large groups and breaking them down into smaller tables, and diners making reservations for large groups under different names.

“Agencies are already intensifying compliance inspections, including verifying reservations made at food and beverage outlets, and will continue to do so during the holiday period,” MSE said.
