SINGAPORE – 18 new coronavirus cases were confirmed as of noon on Thursday (September 17), bringing Singapore’s total to 57.532.

This is the lowest daily figure since March 16, which had 17 cases.

The new cases on Thursday included a community case that has a work pass, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said.

There were also two imported cases, which were included in stay-at-home notices upon arrival in Singapore.

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Health reported that the People’s Park Complex and People’s Park Center were visited by Covid-19 patients while they were infectious.

The shopping centers were added to a list of places visited by community cases during their infectious period. The visits took place on Sunday.

Two new cases were reported in the community on Wednesday. Both patients are work permit holders and were detected from routine tests listed on workers in the construction, marine and process industries who remain outside of bedrooms. They tested positive on Tuesday.

Two new imported cases were also announced on Wednesday. They both came from India. One is a 50-year-old Singaporean woman who returned last Saturday and tested positive on Wednesday. The other is a two-year-old boy, an Indian citizen and holder of a long-term visitation pass, who tested positive on Tuesday. She arrived here on September 3.

Both patients received 14-day stay-at-home notices upon arrival and were evaluated while delivering their notices at specialized facilities.

Migrant dormitory workers made up the remaining 23 of 27 new patients announced Wednesday.

The Health Ministry said it removed one case from the case count after further investigations. The patient, identified as Case 57,107, tested negative twice after an initial positive result.

Investigations by laboratory experts and a panel of experts assessed that his first test result was a false positive, the Health Ministry said. He added that all the necessary public health actions were taken earlier and neither the patient nor his contacts were exposed to the risk of infection due to the initial classification.

The average number of new daily cases in the community in a week has decreased from two cases two weeks ago to one in the last week.

The number of unrelated cases in the community in a week has also decreased from a daily average of one case to less than one during the same period.

With 71 patients discharged on Wednesday, 56,940 have fully recovered from the disease.

A total of 42 patients remained in the hospital Wednesday, none in intensive care, and 490 were recovering in community facilities.

Singapore has had 27 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.

Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December last year, has infected more than 30 million people. More than 944,000 people have died.
