The 13 men and a woman in a wheelchair were seen dejected as they were led out of the cafeteria on Jurong West Street 41 and into police vehicles on August 23.

Earlier, in a corner where there were about a dozen tables, the 14 suspects between the ages of 53 and 72 sat nervously as plain-clothes officers cataloged and packaged marked newspapers, horse betting guides, scrawled scraps of paper, and bundles of bills found between coffee mugs and beer mugs.

Officers seized $ 4,421 in cash in an operation against illegal horse gambling that members of the media were able to cover.

This was the beginning of a week-long bombing led by the Jurong Police Division that ended last Sunday and saw 157 people arrested for various crimes, from illegal gambling to scams.

With the support of the Central Narcotics Bureau, the Land Transportation Authority, and the Immigration and Checkpoint Authority, the joint operation covered locations in Jurong West, Tuas, Choa Chu Kang, Bukit Panjang and Bukit Batok.

Officers detained 128 men and 29 women between the ages of 16 and 81.

Regarding the search for illegal gambling, 28 men and a woman between the ages of 49 and 79 are also being investigated for offenses under the Gambling Act. More than $ 8,000 of cash and gambling paraphernalia were seized.

At the same time, 19 men and seven women between the ages of 17 and 63 are being investigated for e-commerce scams and crime-related business offenses. They are believed to be involved in 39 cases reported across the island involving more than $ 592,000.
