SINGAPORE – This year’s Primary School Completion Exam (PSLE) gave special consideration to 140 6th grade students for Covid-19-related reasons, and some papers were missing because they were on sick leave due to an infection acute respiratory.

These students represented 0.4% of the 2020 PSLE cohort. On Wednesday (November 25), 39,995 students received their results, up from 40,256 students last year.

To ensure fairness for all in light of the pandemic, the Singapore Review and Assessment Board (SEAB) said on Monday it took multiple factors into consideration.

These included the performance of the students on the other jobs and the performance of their school cohort for that affected subject on the PSLE and their school exams.

Students collected their results in their classrooms rather than in the school hall, which is the norm, due to this year’s Covid-19 pandemic.

Doing it that way gave them “the opportunity to be with their peers and consult their teachers face-to-face on their next steps” when collecting their results, the Ministry of Education said.

Due to the younger age of PSLE students, a parent or guardian was allowed to accompany their child or ward to school to collect their results.

For the fifth year in a row, 98.4% of students did well enough to move on to high school. It matched the rate from 2016 to last year, and is still the best performance since the national exam was introduced in 1960.

From 1980 to 2015, between 81.7% and 98.3% of students who attended PSLE were eligible to enroll in high schools.

This year, 66.3 percent of the cohort qualified for the Express course in high schools, which is similar to last year’s rate.

In 2013, a record 66.7 percent made it to the Express course.

Of the 2020 cohort, 21.2% are eligible for the Normal (Academic) course and 11% for the Normal (Technical) course.

Students eligible to enroll in high schools received choice forms when they collected their scorecards.

They will be able to access the online system to submit their options from Wednesday until next Tuesday.

The results of the Secondary 1 publication will be published on December 22.
