SINGAPORE – 13 new coronavirus cases were confirmed as of noon on Tuesday (December 29), all of which were imported.

They were placed on stay-at-home notices or isolated upon arrival in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said.

There were no new community cases and none of the workers’ bedrooms.

Tuesday’s cases bring Singapore’s total to 58,542.

On Monday, the Health Ministry reported that a Singapore Airlines cabin crew member working as a part-time private rental driver with Grab was the only confirmed case of Covid-19 in the community.

There were also four new imported cases.

The community case was a 48-year-old Singaporean man who is asymptomatic and was detected through proactive testing organized by the Singapore Civil Aviation Authority for aircrew returning from overseas flights. He had traveled to the United States on duty from Dec. 12 to 16 on a controlled itinerary, the Health Ministry said.

He was tested last Wednesday, but his test result was inconclusive two days later. This required a second test that same day, which was also inconclusive.

He had stayed home while he waited for more evidence.

On Sunday, his swab tested positive for Covid-19 infection and he was taken by ambulance to the National Center for Infectious Diseases the same day.

Your serological test result is negative, indicating a possible current infection.

The cabin crew of the same US flight as him tested negative for Covid-19 infection last Wednesday.

The Health Ministry added that it has classified the case as locally transmitted due to the relatively long time interval between the patient’s travel and their positive test for Covid-19, and that epidemiological investigations are in progress.

Meanwhile, a restaurant on Upper Paya Lebar Road was added to the places visited by Covid-19 patients when they were still infectious.

Yu Cun Claypot Curry Fish Head was visited by a patient on December 18 between 1:25 PM and 2:55 PM.

Of the four imported cases, three are Singaporeans who returned from India, Myanmar and the United Kingdom. The remaining case is a dependent’s pass holder who arrived from India. All were placed on stay-at-home or in isolation notices upon arrival in Singapore, and were assessed while complying with their notices or in isolation.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has remained low, with a total of one case in the last week that is currently unrelated.

Singapore has had 29 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.

Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December last year, has infected more than 81.1 million people. More than 1.77 million people have died.
