SINGAPORE – 12 new coronavirus cases were confirmed as of noon on Wednesday (December 16), all of which were imported.

The new cases were placed on a stay-at-home notice upon arrival in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said.

There were no new community cases and none of the workers’ bedrooms.

Wednesday’s new cases bring Singapore’s total to 58,353.

More details will be announced Wednesday night.

On Tuesday, the Health Ministry announced that a one-year-old boy and a 29-year-old Russian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter were among 16 new confirmed cases of coronavirus.

The child is a holder of a short-term visitation pass who returned from Indonesia.

He showed symptoms last Friday and was confirmed positive on Monday.

The MMA fighter is also the holder of a short-term visitation pass who traveled from Russia to participate in a sporting event here.

There were 13 other imported boxes that included three Singaporeans, two short-term visit pass holders, five work permit holders, one dependent pass holder, one student pass holder, and one work pass holder.

Singaporeans returned from India, Great Britain and the United States, while the holders of work passes and work permits, who are employed in Singapore, came from Brazil, India and Indonesia.

All imported cases had received a stay-at-home notice upon arrival in Singapore.

There were no new Covid-19 patients in the community on Tuesday, but there was one case in a workers’ dormitory, which was detected when a Covid-19 test was done prior to departure in preparation for their return to China.

The Health Ministry said he was asymptomatic and that his previous tests from the listed routine tests had been negative.

His close contacts in the bedroom and workplace have been quarantined as a precaution, he added.

With 23 cases discharged on Tuesday, 58,218 patients have fully recovered from the disease.

A total of 25 patients remained in the hospital Tuesday night, none in intensive care, while 54 patients are still recovering in community facilities.

Singapore has had 29 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.

Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December last year, has infected more than 72.8 million people. More than 1.6 million people have died.
