SINGAPORE – 10 new coronavirus cases were confirmed as of Friday (October 9), bringing Singapore’s total to 57,859.

There was a locally transmitted case in a bedroom, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.

There were also nine imported cases that were placed on stay-at-home notices when they arrived in Singapore.

This is the third day in a row that there are no community cases.

More details will be released on Friday evening, the Health Ministry said.

On Thursday night, the Health Ministry confirmed that a two-year-old Singaporean girl who returned from Nepal on September 25 was among five imported Covid-19 cases reported that day.

Among the others were a 31-year-old French engineer who arrived from France on Monday for a short-term work project, and a 32-year-old Japanese national, who arrived on Tuesday.

All three were evaluated while serving their 14-day stay-at-home notices. None had symptoms.

The remaining two imported cases were members of the crew of a ship that arrived from Malaysia on 23 September. They did not disembark and were isolated after one of them was confirmed to have Covid-19.

They were taken by ambulance to the hospital after the test results came back positive.

No new cases were reported in the community on Thursday.

Migrant workers living in dormitories made up the remaining four of nine new coronavirus patients announced Thursday.

Among them, one had previously been identified as a contact from previous cases and was already in quarantine. The remaining three cases were detected by surveillance tests.

As in Thursday night’s report, the number of new daily cases in the community has been stable at an average of one case per day for the past two weeks.

The number of unrelated cases in the community has also remained stable at an average of less than one case per day during the same period.

With 44 cases discharged on Thursday, 57,653 patients have made a full recovery from the disease.

A total of 35 patients remain in the hospital, including one in critical condition in the intensive care unit, while 119 are recovering in community facilities.

Singapore has had 27 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.

Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December last year, has infected some 36 million people. More than a million people have died.
