SINGAPORE: Ten mosques will participate in a pilot test to gradually increase to 250 worshipers per session by the end of the year, the Singapore Islamic Religious Council (MUIS) said on Sunday (November 1).

The selected mosques will begin offering three prayer zones of 50 people per zone from November 13 and will progressively increase the spaces to 250 congregants.

This comes after the government announced in September that it is progressively easing measures for religious activities and services.

Prayer goers should use the TraceTogether app or the SafeEntry record token.

“This pilot will test the readiness of the mosque to organize congregational prayers in greater numbers safely, as well as the cooperation of parishioners to comply with safe management measures,” MUIS said.

By October 7, MUIS had increased the number of daily congregational prayer spaces in 19 mosques from 50 to 100, to “meet the demand of the parishioners.”

TRACETOGETHER AND COVID-19 SAFE MANAGEMENT MEASURES

Worshipers attending Friday prayers at all 10 mosques should use the TraceTogether app or token as an extra precaution, MUIS said.

“With increasing numbers of worshipers, optimizing the use of TraceTogether will allow for faster contact tracing, as this will help keep our mosques and loved ones safer,” MUIS said.

He added that TraceTogether will also allow the location of a possible infection and will allow mosques to professionally clean and disinfect only the frequented area when a case of COVID-19 is detected.

“This allows for a faster and safer reopening of the mosque facilities and reduces the time to reopen,” he said.

The authorities recently announced that the use of the TraceTogether app or the token will be mandatory in many places in Singapore.

It is currently used in 40 mosques for SafeEntry records.

Parishioners are also encouraged to follow safe distancing measures while in mosques. This includes wearing masks, refraining from speaking, keeping a safe distance from other parishioners, and bringing your own prayer items.

MUIS also announced that registration for Friday prayers for the next two weeks in all mosques will be available through the MuslimSG app and through ourmosques.commonspaces.sg starting at 10am. M. From November 10.

MUIS also said that those who have reservations and cannot attend should cancel at least an hour in advance to allow other worshipers a chance to register.
