Singapore offers COVID-19 Bluetooth trackers to seniors without smartphones

It is not a fact that everyone has a smartphone. Generally, everything is fine, but countries around the world hope to use the devices to track contact between those with COVID-19 and the rest of the public. To bring that functionality to the elderly, the Singapore government is sending Bluetooth pendants called TraceTogether tokens. They can communicate with each other, as well as with the TraceTogether smartphone app, to control who has come in contact with the virus, no smartphone is needed.

The elderly who have little family support or have mobility problems are being prioritized. As more tokens are made, they will go to a wider range of older people. If a user comes into contact with someone with COVID-19, a contact tracking officer will contact them so they know they need to be checked. If a health care provider determines that the person contracted the virus, data can be downloaded from the device for more in-depth information on who the person came into contact with.
