Shark Week: Everything you need to know about Shark Week 2020


The popular Discovery Channel Shark Week series has officially launched.

With more than 20 hours of programming sharks this week, here’s an example of where you can sink your teeth into:

“Air Jaws: Ultimate Breach Off” (8 pm ET): Using decoys, drones and underwater cameras, three researchers will return to one of Air Jaws’ latest hunting sites to “count the number of burglaries and gather data” on hunting techniques to learn more about how the shark population recovered.

“Tyson vs. Jaws: Rumble on the Reef (9 pm ET): The legendary boxer will go head-to-head with one of the ocean’s top predators, including the shark of the black tip reef. Famous ring announcer Michael Buffer will name the shots.

Monday (August 10)

“Abandoned Waters (FKA Sharks of Neptune)” (8 pm ET): Due to coronavirus pandemic, a lack of human interaction has allowed some of the largest great white sharks to return to their natural behavior. Shark researchers now have the opportunity to study large whites up close and personal in the Neptune Islands of Australia.

“ShaqAttack” (9pm ET): After Shaquille O’Neal’s Shaikille Shark Meet during Shaq Does Shark Week in 2019, he’s back with YouTube stars Dude Perfect and Mark Rober to ‘test and discover’ several sharks’ most mind-blowing hunting techniques. “

“Jaws Awakens” (10 pm ET): Shark expert Chris Fallows joins Jeff Kurr and Dickie Chivell to explore the waters of New Zealand in search of Fred, the largest male great white shark in the world.

Tuesday (August 11)

“Extinct as Living: Land of the Lost Sharks” (8 pm ET): Wildlife biologist and conservator Forrest Galante dives into shore-contaminated waters to discover three sharks “lost to science” for nearly a century.

“Will Smith: Off The Deep End” (9 pm ET): Will Smith dives into shark infested water to confront his fear of open water – and sharks.

“Great White Serial Killer Extinction” (10 pm ET): The Great White Serial Killer returns, and its hunting could lead to the extinction of the sea otter in California. Investigators use an otter dummy to witness “one of the most spectacular attacks in Shark Week history.”

Wednesday (August 12)

“Monster Under the Bridge” (8 pm ET): Scientists believe an 18-foot-long, one-ton hammerhead named Big Moe lives below the Old Seven Mile Bridge. Find out if it’s true.

“Adam Devine’s Secret Shark Lair” (9 pm ET): Last year, Adam Devine and a team of marine biologists discovered a secret tiger shark lair, which is perhaps the largest community of tiger sharks on the planet. Devine, Anders Holm and Blake Anderson learn about what makes this “tiger shark party” so unique.

“Great White Double Trouble” (10 pm ET): Scientists discover that Australia is infested with two populations of great white sharks, and researchers want to know who controls the water.

Thursday (August 13)

“Air Jaws 2020” (8 pm ET): Shark Week celebrates 20 years of flying sharks with Kurr, Fallows and Chivell as they revisit the most popular “Air Jaws” moments.

“Sharkadelic Summer” (9 pm ET): Snoop Dogg learns more about why Great White Sharks live off the coast of America. In this episode, Snoop will revisit some of the craziest shark encounters captured on camera and meet experts studying the secrets behind the “great invasion of white shark.”

“Mako Nation” (10 pm ET): Shark expert Riley Elliot and underwater cameraman Andy Casagrande embark on a mission to discover the mysteries behind the mako shark in one of the remaining places in the world they talk about govern the water.

Friday (August 14)

“Alien Sharks: First Contact” (8 pm ET): Alien Sharks dive under the waves in deep waters, where researchers try to make first contact.

“Lair of the Great White” (9 pm ET): A team of experts venture into underwater caves to discover why a population of large whites off the coast of Western Australia is so much more aggressive than others.

“Tiger Shark King” (10 pm ET): A deepsea camera captures a 14-foot tiger shark attacked by a large, invisible beast that could be an unknown species of mega-shark or a cannibalistic tiger shark.

“I Was Prey Shark Week 2” (11 pm ET): Two adventure seekers share their shark attack stories. A spearfish expedition “turns into a nightmare” after a bull shark and great white shark attack a paddle boarder on Ascension Island off the coast of Australia.

Saturday (August 15)

“Sharks of Ghost Island” (8 pm ET): Dr. Craig O’Connell and a team of experts return to Ghost Island, located on the edge of the Bermuda Triangle, to find out why the island attracts so many sharks.

“Wicked Sharks” (9 pm ET): Shark expert Dr. Greg Skomal uses advanced technology to capture the eye of the great white shark to discover how and where they hunt to protect humans during the summer.

“Sharks Gone Wild 3” (10 pm ET): This episode will go through viral shark videos, the biggest news stories, and the latest in cutting edge shark science.

“I Was Prey: Terrors from the Deep” (11 pm ET): Four survivors share stories about how they came face to face with sharks and lived.

Sunday (August 16)

“Naked and Afraid of Sharks 2” (8 pm ST): Five Naked and Afraid veterans – Matt Wright, Jeff Zausch, Serena and Amber Shine, and Alex Manard – try to survive on a remote strip of islands surrounded by shark-infested water that flows through the inhabitants are known as “shark track.” With limited resources and harsh conditions on land, they will have to compete with sharks for the same food.
