Shanghai Disney Resort to increase capacity, update reservation system

Next week will be particularly magical at Shanghai Disney Resort, as the Chinese theme park expands daily guest capacity and a simplified reservation system debuts for greater flexibility.

Shanghai Disneyland announced the changes on Monday, and revealed that the updates on August 24 will take effect.

In a statement posted on the park’s website, officials cited new guidance from China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism in allowing the expanded guest capacity; the ministry recently issued a statement allowing tourist places to increase their operational capacity from 30% to 50%.

“As a result of this policy change, and as general market conditions continue to deteriorate, Shanghai Disney Resort is increasing the daily capacity of the resort’s theme park,” officials said.

To this end, the theme park will also develop a new reservation system that aims to provide increased flexibility for park goers.

However, the resort will continue to mandate guidelines on “reservations, stacked arrivals and applicable capacity checks,” Disney stressed as the coronavirus health crisis continues.

Effective August 24, annual passers-by and general admission ticket holders will be welcome to visit Shanghai Disneyland on any eligible day, as determined by pass or ticket conditions. All other visitors will also be able to purchase tickets and visit the theme park on the same day, subject to availability.

From now on, however, there is an exception for “days of high attendance”, per guidance of the government.

“In accordance with Shanghai Disneyland’s existing policy management policy, if a date is predicted to be a ‘high attendance day’ based on maximum capacity government guidelines (currently 50%) and if such action is required, Shanghai Disneyland reserves the right to: suspend the sale of all ticket products and block all annual passes on that date, ”said Disney. “Communication will be done done in time.”
