Shameless actor Steve Howey and L Word star Sarah Shahi separated after 11 years of marriage


After more than a decade of marriage, Steve Howey and Sarah Shahi go their separate ways.

“Our priority will continue to be the joint raising of our children with so much love, mutual respect and friendship,” they said in a statement.

People can confirm that ex L Word and Person of interest star Shahi filed for divorce from the Shameless actor on May 4 at the Los Angeles Superior Court.

The former share the son William Wolf, 10, and the twins Violet Moon and Knox Blue, 5.

“After much thought and consideration, we have decided to end our marriage,” Howey, 42, and Shahi, 40, said in a joint statement to PEOPLE on Monday. “We are so grateful for the past 10 years together and proud of our children we have raised.”

“As we enter this new phase of our lives, our priority will continue to be the raising of our children together with so much love, mutual respect and friendship,” they continued. “And even though our relationship is changing, we are committed to continuing our lives as a loving family.”

Shahi and Howey, who played Kevin Ball in Shameless Since 2011, it has met in the set of Reba in 2004. They married in 2009 in Las Vegas.

Speaking to PEOPLE in 2016, the stars reflected on how their lives changed after welcoming the twins.

“It’s not easy, but all three are beautiful babies,” Howey said. “We are a very close family, just bigger.”

The actor said raising his children can be “overwhelming,” but added that the two worked “really hard” to schedule training time together.

“Or we will run to the kitchen and have a shot of tequila very quickly, let’s just do something together,” he said. “Then go back to the game room or change a diaper.”
