Forcing us to contemplate, not for the first time, the question of who might be the most beloved and dynamic pickled hero in the entertainment industry, HBO Max now released the first trailer for An American pickle, the movie where Seth Rogen plays a 1920s European immigrant who falls into a pickle tank and emerges 100 years later, seemingly no worse from wear and tear. As noted above:back when the movie was first announced–the good heart Rip Van Pickle (real name: Herschel Greenbaum) She then meets her great-grandson, with the couple connecting through their shared family history, and also the fact that they are both Seth Rogen.
Like yummy bread and butter slipped on a plate of wonderfully spicy kosher dill, the trailer for An American pickle it’s a lot sweeter than its extremely dumb premise could have made you expect. However, unlike those dish-ruining abominations, it doesn’t seem to go entirely with saccharin, but contrasts Herschel’s comic optimism with deeper questions about faith, family, and death. Also David Bowie, because we have to give up on the movie: a guy who fell into a pickle tank in 1920 and then emerged into American society 100 years later. he would probably have some trouble coming to terms with David Bowie.
An American pickle debuts on HBO Max on August 6.
