Series ‘MacGruber’ ordered from Peacock, will return major roles


MacGruber is officially back in action.

Peacock has released an order of eight episodes for a “MacGruber” series that will show Will Forte the role he made on “Saturday Night Live.” News of the pickup was announced at the NBCUniversal streamer’s TCA press day, and comes about eight months after the show was first put into development.

The half-hour series is an adaptation of the 2010 film of the same name, and will also be directed by the helmet of the film Jorma Taccone, of the celebrity of Lonely Island.

Peacock’s acceptance of “MacGruber” will begin with the main character, described as the ultimate hero and Uber patriot of America, and will be released from prison andfurther, it has been rotting in there for more than a decade. His new mission will be to take down a mysterious villain from his past – Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth. With the whole world at the crossroads, MacGruber must race against time to defeat the forces of evil, only to find that evil can lurk within.

The character began in 2007 as a “MacGyver” parody on “SNL”, before snagging his own movie. The movie version stars Forte alongside Kristen Wiig as Vicki (MacGruber’s colleague and love interest) and Ryan Phillippe as Piper (who becomes part of the MacGruber team). Val Kilmer starred as the villain Dieter Von Cunth. The film budgeted in theaters just $ 9 million against a budget of $ 10 million.

Forte will also be writing and producing this new series alongside John Solomon and Taccone (who all three co-wrote the original film). Lorne Michaels, John Goldwyn, Andrew Singer and Erin David also serve as executive producers. The series is coming of Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Broadway Video.
