ČAČAK – Residents of Atenica near Čačak have had an unbearable odor problem that has been permeating their settlement for most of the year. They tried to solve this problem through the competent institutions, but without success.
“The gray water, which has an unbearable smell, flows through the rainwater collector, which was made 15 years ago, eight months a year. It’s certainly not rain and you can’t live off that stench. We also complained to the competent inspection service, who went to the field for the last time in August this year, “Slobodan Obradović from Atenica told RINA.
Aside from the stench they have lived with for a long time, the locals are also haunted by the banks of the Athenian river, which is overgrown with brush and has been cleaned, as they say, only once every forty years.
“Nobody knows what jurisdiction it belongs to. We clean as much as we can, but people throw everything away, that’s exactly what has accumulated. The water cannot be seen from the vegetation and it is dangerous to go through the river due to the height of the grass” Slobodan said.
Citizens went to the Water Management Inspectorate, but have not yet received a response.
“We don’t want to blame anyone, we just want to come up with a solution to the problem. We would be satisfied if the river was cleaned once a year, and we will do it in front of our shipyards, ”says Obradović.
