Croatian Defense Minister Tomo Medved said on Tuesday that six people were killed in the earthquake: five in Majske Poljane, as well as a girl in Petrinja, and tonight the media unofficially reported the seventh victim in the church in Zazina near Sisak.
“We have heavy casualties. In the vicinity of Glina, in the city of Majska Poljana, we have five people dead so far. With a girl from Petrinja, a total of six people died in this devastating earthquake,” Medved told reporters in Glina , where he met Prime Minister Andrej Plenković. He got to see the consequences of the devastating earthquake.
Expressing his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones, he noted that all services are on the ground. “The rescue services continue to work through the night in Petrinja, Sisak, Glina and the surrounding villages. All emergency services are on the ground and doing their work in a coordinated manner,” he stressed.
Medved also said that they organized accommodation for people who lost their homes and were unable to return to their homes. “All of our services: the Homeland Security system, the Civil Protection system, are doing their job in a coordinated manner in cooperation with the state headquarters and the county and city headquarters,” he said.
Medved also said that for now, it is not possible to talk about the magnitude of the damages, because they are mainly aimed at saving lives.
The media unofficially claim tonight that another earthquake victim died in the church in Žažina, near Sisak.
